Title: New Fields
Post by: dandelO on October 17, 2011, 08:55:39 PM
The old one hurts my eyes the more I see it so, as I said in the other thread, I'd start afresh on the fields thing.
Here's one that I'm a deal happier with.

Other people's models used;
Ade Levi's fir.
Xfrog fir.
Mr Lamppost's bushes.
Some vehicles from DMI models.
Building from Google 3D Warehouse.
And sheep from a friend.

Cheers for looking! :)

Hi dandelO,

That's a pretty cool image. Looks a bit like where I live except there's less trees - lots of windbreaks have been cut down for centre pivot irrigators.

Regards,

Jo

I like the line of cars behind the tractor.  ;D Great render.

The only thing I see that looks a bit odd is the yellow plants in the field. I would have made this a bit more hazy also. The roads, vehicles, and other parts look great.

Thanks, folks! :)

It's also very much like where I live. Based on the Crieff Road, 5 minutes walk from me here.
The main difference here is that the Lochty Industrial Estate should be in the triangular field(the one between the police car and the bus) and there's a stream that should run parallel to the right hand road that runs under a small bridge on the main road, in real life, that is. I'll try and find some pictures online of the area.

I bet if an actual central pivot irrigation system type scene was made in TG, it would be classed as fake looking, even real satellite shots of them look a bit contrived to me. :D

I think you might be right about the rapeseed field, Henry, I could have probably got better results by not using a population at all there and using some appropriate shaders instead.

I much prefer this one to my first awful attempt, though.

I like this one much better, Martin. It has the feel of a toy park, due to the hard light, I guess. If you want more 'reality' I'd play with haze, lighter trees, more diversity in the fields... I don't wanna to sound patronizing though, we know those types  ;)

Great suggestions, I second these :)
Did I sound patronizing in the previous version?

Nice work. I think you may have Dune's problem - bright greens ;)

No, Martin, you didn't. But I am sometimes a bit careful with my suggestions and 'criticism'.

Dune, you have a disclaimer at the bottom of each post you make.

Dandelo, I think the roads need a little variation in their color. Blacktop gets lighter where the tires don't travel often. There's another nice problem to make this render more difficult. :(

Hi dandelO,

I really like the un-reality of this one! It looks like a photo of a meticulously crafted landscape model, the kind one sees with model trains. If you were to add a "tilt lens effect" no one would know this is not a photo. Whats really funny and cool, it that you have done a render that looks like an effect, but without using an effect  :D lol. Also, if you were to animate the cars driving on the road it would look like a shot from an expensive animated movie!

Nice image Martin. I wonder whether a mix of haze and some low level fluffy clouds would give the impression of a final approach at a local BAA run airport... Well not Edinburgh! :)
