Im betting something like this would be pretty easy for someone to model. It would look great in an ET shot in TG2

seems like M.C. Escher drew a piece with fungi like this at one point.

re Escher: Indeed. In the bottom-left corner of the Waterfall (we have that picture hanging in the kitchen).
