Title: Using Terragen in a flow with Lightwave
Post by: Stephen.Tarheel on January 21, 2012, 02:05:52 PM
Good morning,

I'm looking at Vue and Terragen for composing landscapes for a sci-fi project.  I'd like to be able to use whatever I choose to create background plates as well as establishing shots of locations - I want them to be renderable in Lightwave so I can break out passes.  I know that Vue (at the higher levels) allows it work inside of Lightwave, how cooperative is Terragen with fitting into a workflow in Lightwave.

Thanks for any feedback,

-Stephen

Here is a link to a couple of videos which demonstrate landscape integration in 3DS Max and Maya. Lightwave has a terrain/heightfield exporter. The basics should be the same for Maya, Max, and Lightwave.

njeneb,

Thanks for the links.  I watched the videos and I think I can do what I want - hidden LWO objects from camera, but having them cast shadows will handle about 90% of the situations (I think).  And if needed, I can use a terrain mesh export to Lightwave to use as a masking object.  Which should work unless you're looking through a population set at an object...I don't think this limitation is a deal breaker.
