one of my SSDs died today, it was the one i boot from.
contacted my system builder about a replacement, waiting for a reply.
the good news most of my other important files (objects, scene tgds, images, music, etc, etc) are safe on one of the separate drives
I though these SSD's were virtually unbreakable :( >:( ???

Oh no, in contrary, if they go they go without a warning.
With normal drives you often run into small problems, hangs, noises and such which hint that your drive may have had it's best time.
However, SSD's just go in a blink.
Intel has a proven record for delivering some of the most stable SSD's, so that's why I have one.
It's more expensive than a OCZ Vertex 3 and also slower (relatively, since it's still bloody fast compared to a conventional drive), but the controller firmware of the latest OCZ models often cause problems/crashes/failures/broken SSD's.
Still, all my creative stuff and stuff that matters is on the normal drive and I only use the SSD for OS and software.
I agree. I have a total of about 20 OCZ drives between a variety of systems I own, and most of them have been bulletproof. When they have failed (2 so far), they've done so abruptly. I haven't seen a media failure yet, it's always been in the disk controller.
I actually have 4 of the Vertex 2's in a RAID0 stripe on my primary workstation. Of course, I back that machine up every hour.
Recently, I switched to using the Agility 3's for new systems. They are flat out amazing from every perspective. I'm sure the Intel's are great drives, I just never found one that had the right price/performance ratio for me.
update
the SSD was'nt dead yet after all, i tried plugging the sata cable into another connector
booted it up, changed the boot order in the efi bios, system started up like it normally does.
