Title: License Trouble
Post by: l.a. akira on April 22, 2007, 04:16:08 PM
I emailed matt about this but haven't got a response yet. Basically, I got a new machine and I need some help either moving my license key or having a new license key generated for the new machine. I realize this is a general forum but it seems some times that messages to matt and PMs to the ops go unanswered for weeks at a time and I cant afford to wait that long with this.

Thanks in advance

If you still have the old install you should be able to find your key file in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Planetside Software\Terragen 2 where C: is your Windows install drive and UserName is your Windows user name. You will need to have "Show Hidden Files" on and "Protect Operating System Files" off in Explorer folder view options (Tools->Folder Options). When you find the keyfile (tg2key.tgk) simply copy it to a USB drive, CD, or floppy, or over the network to your new machine, then put it in the TG2 install folder and it should automatically be recognized.

If you are still having trouble the best way to get help with your license key is to email registrations@planetside.co.uk directly. Keep in mind it is the weekend and most of the staff isn't on the clock. I do part-time flexible hours so I'm here on weekends more often. As a result I am likely to be the most responsive, especially on the off hours like this. If a PM such as your recent one is simply asking for a response to a forum post I will respond directly to the thread rather than to your PM. I hope you don't misconstrue that as not being responsive to your message.

Oshyan, I moved the key over to the coresponding folder on the new machine and it still doesnt not work. I tried two different versions of the app. One version simply does nothing when I click the icon and the newer version says "unable to find a valid license key"

The latest version will report a key error while previous versions don't. In both cases the problem would seem to be the same. You can try putting the key into the same directory in which you found it on the previous machine. If you have the original email from Planetside that included your key you can also try that version as it may have somehow become corrupted since. Otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to wait for registrations to issue you an updated key. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I noticed a similar issue, well it's kinda difficult not to notice it as it happens everytime Terragen 2 is started. And it's like this.. once Terragen 2 is started then it automatically safecopies the license to a folder in Documents and Settings and that's nice. However if you then shutdown TG2 and restart it again it complains that it cannot find a valid licensefile and that's after it safecopied the licensefile to the Documents and Settings folder and it's also stored in Terragen 2's installation dir. If i remove the licensefile from the Documents and Settings folder where it stores it upon each start then TG2 will work, otherwise it won't.

Is there any way to solve this issue ?

Hi Max,

That's unusual. My first guess would be that there's something about the path to the Documents and Settings folder which is confusing Terragen. Can you give me the full path to the back-up key file on your hard drive please?

Hi Matt

Yes i thought it was odd too but i suspected it to be a known issue already. This is the path to where Terragen 2 copies the licensekey each time i start it.

C:\Documents and Settings\Max\Application Data\Planetside Software\Terragen 2\

And i have to manually delete the backup key each time i wanna start Terragen 2 again, kinda tedious in the long run.
