I'm onto something, but it needs work. Based on a simple warped simple shape. The terrain is horrible...
This one is (just) a bit nicer.
Hi Ulco,
The second pic is getting there - some detail on the ground and you have the basis of a nice study!
J
Je cherchais à créer une route comme toi sur la première, peut tu nous le dire ?
I tried to create a route like you on the first, can you tell us ?
I have to perfect this first... saved in grayscale by accident >:(
ca vient peut-être du soleil, ou envero ligth et l'atmosphere ?
Some nice views here Ulco. Keep it up
Quoteca vient peut-être du soleil, ou envero ligth et l'atmosphere ?
No, I just saved the rendered bmp as a gray scale jpg.
the second one is really nice, good color variations of the tree populations.
Put a little more effort in the scene...
Great image and atmosphere but the road looks a little too clean. I think the tree has great potential but somehow is not quite right - too bright and shiny perhaps. The shoreline could do with some rocks to break it up a little.
This is great, I like this scene a lot. Must have been a lot of work with all that detail and well placed objects! Very cool!
Frank
Thanks, Frank. It's not your setup, by the way (which I haven't even checked out), but it must be very similar. All based on the same principles I guess. I'll work on some dirt on the road, and the coastline may indeed have something extra. Already changed the tree, mhaze is right about that. The most important is that I don't like this car, nor the cyclist.
I saw a documentary last night about David Hockney, where some countryside scenes gave me some ideas, which I may pursue instead. We'll see.
this is a great scene, the only thing that really "pops" out is the car in my eyes, but with a nice, fitting car....
Almost missed this one. That is a mighty fine looking scene Ulco. It has a bit of everything in the composition. I look forward to the evolution towards the final image.
You should make a habit of checking out every new post, Bob.
Here's a new version; other car, but I used to large patches of grass (they float here and there). The tree now has a procedural 'bark', etc. I had to put a 'driver' in the empty car, which is a simple sphere (for now).
Much improved, an impressive image. Great mood and the plant distribution is amazing. Where did you get the tree btw?
Made it.
excellent
Amazing how a change in the sun's position can deliver a whole new look. Sometimes an additional light source may be needed to better illuminate the vegetation. Did you do that here?
Yes, the GI was 2/2, but I added a 0.15 bluish no shadow fill light at the right. The sun has 2 versions, one for glow and speculars, one for light and no glow/speculars, or the sky and water would bleach out.
Another one, which I will still have to refine.
Cooool! :)
May I, may I? ;D
Oh man, this is looking great. Another 'Road Pack' at NWDA?
I'll keep this to myself for the time being. Sorry. Have to figure out some stuff, which I want to do myself. Like you can see here. I am also afraid that if I put this at NWDA Frank's pack won't sell anymore 8) My method might be partially overlapping (don't know really), but it'll wind a road along any slope (road slope adjustable) and be flat where it needs to be. As usual with simple shapes (that's the basis of course), you are stuck to either x or Z directional roads with a bit of warp. So for this image I set up a slightly valley like stretched PF terrain with quite smooth features (or the road will bump more), and the terrain needs to be built up from that.
Updated.
Still some issues to solve.
It's coming along nicely. It looks to me like the section of road in the background has more bend/slope than it should
Looks like the road from hell, rollercoaster style :) No shoulder and no guardrail (except in one spot now)... ;D Amazing technique, though. Like the last shot a lot.
Love the paved one. Wow!
Looks good Ulco :)

oh, come on Ulco! You know I don't mind. Just finish it and put it up, I am all for it. It will surely be a good alternative.
Cheers,
Frank
Good to know that you think of it like that, Frank. I'll consider it after finalizing the issues at hand.
This is fantastic. Seeing roads in a scene like this gives one the sense of exploring; like, whats over the next hill. Put it up on NWDA Ulco!
Very nice work. Love the version with water and that old VW
Well, one more then.
The best potholes I've seen yet.
The road looks good Ulco.
Some parts do look a little too much steep but i know you know this and you probably are trying very hard to make this better.
I would not try this without masks. Kudos to you :)
You've demonstrated well how this road can be applied to a great looking terrain. Is this a fractal terrain; or, an imported .ter?
I've been following without commenting, but this is great! The background part is a bit steep, but really like the foreground part - especially (what appears to be) the right-hand shoulder.
It wouldn't work on any .ter, as you need to start out with a smooth enough fractal to allow for a smooth road. Build the terrain on either side up with additional fractals (or maybe a generated terrain or .ter). In fact I used a fractal setup shown in another recent thread about extreme settings. So it's all procedural. And as for the steepness; that's just a matter of hitting the right seed or decreasing the size differences in the fractal. I think this is a perlin PF with sizes 900/5000/90 or so, displaced 300m. If I use 200 instead of 90 the road smooths out of course.
Oh what a nice project this would be...
It can be done, no doubt.
Yeah, but those mountains have some interesting spikey erosive shapes going on there. It might be doable with some custom blue shaders over an existing alpine fractal. The clouds have some mixed grey tones in them suggesting a mixed internal density. Not sure if that is possible to fractal mix internal cloud densities.
You could use a copy of the cloud nodes and just slightly change distribution and color.
Nice technique,so let me quote Dune : ....a nice tgd or tgc would be very informative Grin !
;) ;D

Does have the sentence " hitting below the belt " the same meaning there , j meyer ? ;D
You can always try, can't you? And some guys don't mind giving away some nodes. I do it as well, but not this time 8) as it's quite a comprehensive and structural thing.
Kadri - sorry you took it that way

Sorry you took it too serious too, j meyer. Just having a little fun ;) :D
Don't fight guys. I like a little fun. I like a lot of fun even better.
