Title: Newbie Terragen
Post by: InsomniaJohn on February 17, 2012, 05:58:51 PM
I have done zero work to the terrain shader yet... just setting a mood.  Anyone have thoughts what settings to tweak to reduce the noise in the light shafts?

You can probably get rid of it by adjusting the samples in the atmosphere and cloud layer.

Something else you can try is enabling "ray trace atmosphere" on the render node. In that case you may not need to increase the atmosphere samples or cloud samples. Generally I would increase atmosphere samples or enable ray trace atmosphere, but not both. What gives you the best quality in the shortest render time is hard to predict and will vary from scene to scene.

Thanks Matt.  Those settings really helped.  I started a new scene trying my hand at some snow this time.  The sky color still bugs me; I will probably do another render or try and futz with it in comp.

I like that dramatic sky in the first one. It makes for good composition and sense of distance.
