Title: Summer evening (stuff added)
Post by: Hannes on February 19, 2012, 05:31:53 AM
After a long long break I was testing a few cloud settings and came up with this. Thanks to Ladana for his balloon. Plants by Lightning, Klas, Aymenk2003 and Walli. Hope you like it.

Landscape and skyscape are fantastic!  The balloons look a little flat. (Maybe more shading??)

Very nice, indeed. I tend to want to look to the left and see more of the village, but as it is about clouds.... The balloons are very translucent I believe, maybe just a bit too much? But it's not really distracting from this beautiful scene.

Superb atmosphere and the planting is just right. Like Dune I'd like to see more of the village.

Great scene Hannes. Agree that the balloons are a bit translucent, but love the overall effect.

Brilliant sky and overall view

Thanks guys! I tried to use translucency for the balloons, but it didn't look right, so I used a little luminosity, maybe a little too much. I have to say that I used a fill light setup for this image. I tend to use this most of the time, because when I decide to animate the scene, there will be no GI flicker.
For the clouds I use the same cloud layer twice: one with normal settings and the other one with the same density shader, but with much lower density but a little more coverage to get some fuzzy area around the cloud bodies (I hope that makes sense!?)
I added the houses right before I hit render. The .tgo is a single set of some houses, so it might look weird if you'd see, that some of them are buried into the ground and some of them are floating (cheater!!!)
OK, I'm testing the clouds a little more, because this was my initial intention. Thanks a lot for your tips anyway!!

It does. I recently figured it might be interesting to use the inverse, but slightly denser of a cloud fractal to warp the edges, if that makes sense. Still have to pursue that.

Looking forward to an update, Hannes.

Ah wow, this is almost Turner-esque in terms of sky and landscape. Can't wait to see an update!

You can also use a 'power scalar' to soften edges of your fractal.

The landscape is beautiful, and I am tempted to see more of the village too...
...but the sky is AWESOME!!   :o

Thanks guys. Here is another version. I didn't have so much time, so I left the sky untouched, but changed the POV. Sorry, I had to leave out the village, because it didn't fit in.
I reduced the luminance of the balloons a little bit and added some water with a layer of mist.
@TU: I have to admit that I don't have the slightest idea how to use those functions. How can I use the power scalar to soften the edges? Btw it shouldn't be too soft. I like this fuzzy feathering.

Although the balloons are much improved, I really want to to see that village. Don't make me throw my toys out the pram.  ;D
Clouds are something I'm only recently getting into myself. Hopefully someone else can help you there. I do know though that these ones look brilliant.

Sky's great, balloons are great, veggies are fine, but if you somehow find a way to squeeze a bit of the village in, it would be a killer :)

So be it, then!

Very nice update. You could add a little flame in the basket to give the balloons more life... shouldn't be hard at all.

OK, I squeezed in a bit of the village, added a burner and a flame to the balloon (I had to paint the flame in photoshop - this is the only PW here, the lightsource is really there) and finally (just for Kadri ;D) put a coyote at the right bottom of the image (this is ridiculous, I know, since this looks more like a middle european scenery, and there are not too many coyotes in Europe. As far as I know....).

Beautiful render - I would say that this image is now complete ;D
