I've always though Saturn was a pretty, pretty planet. I've been playing around with recreating it for probably about three years now and have finally achieved decent results. Everything is pure terragen except for the image maps for the opacity and color of the rings which I made. The inner edge of the ring still needs work as it is still noticeably grainy. Thanks for taking a look.
A second, bigger version with some transparency in the rings can be seen here

That's plainly the best Saturn that anyone ever made with Terragen, period!
I agree with FrankB. It's absolutely stunning! Great render.
Is that from the default main planet or a moon? Looks great!
The second version looks great darthvader1 :)
Thanks guys! The main planet is the default terragen planet just with some procedural clouds added on for color. I'm probably going to post a tgd explaining how I got the rings to do their opacity business.
Looks great, Darthvader! I used a procedural function to make rings from a cloud layer for my Saturn renders, this one looks better, though, because it's made with the actual ring image from the real planet.
Did you use a cloud layer for the rings or a surface plane with blending shaders for the alpha? Looks great, whatever you've done. :)
Great looking render. Looking forward to your explanations.

Hey Darth,
If your still interested, I would like to know about your opacity process! It's very relevant to me now. Thanks
Thanks for the reminder TheBadger, school got busy and made me forget, but it is now posted in the file sharing section, sorry for the delay.
