Title: On The Way
Post by: Kadri on May 15, 2012, 07:00:15 PM

After the complex-cluttered crystal project i wanted to make a simple image.
Rendered the foreground and background separate in TG2 (not that there was need for it).
Model made in Lightwave. Some postwork involved , like the thrusters etc .

I like this a lot Kadri,

I would lend some time on my system to you if you want to animate it.

Thanks TheBadger for your kind offer!
I will make a short movie this summer (hopefully) .
This scene was only meant as an image.
But it would be possible to do it as an animation with a little effort.
The good part is that it renders very fast .
I think i could use this kind of scene ;maybe the same one, in the movie.
Will see!
Thanks again TheBadger  :)

I like this one. Superb background and model fits the idea nicely.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to animate the nebula like a hurricane? A slow spin outward from the center?

I did not try TheBadger, but a basic spinning image mask and some changes on the procedural settings in time  could be enough to be seen as a spinning nebula-galaxy. More sophisticated ways too are possible in TG2 of course  :)
Wasn't there a post about a tornado in the near time?

An old but very nice thread :

But i could not find animated ones...

How did you create that beautiful galaxy??? You can do that with TG2?

I'm not using TG2 yet, but very interested in it.

Beautiful, waiting for the animation!  8)

Thanks guys :)

Megacal the galaxy is a procedural used on the background node with a mask
that is made from a heavily postworked hurricane image i found on the web.
There is not much displacement-3D there. It is very subtle.
Probably an image as background would be the same. So nothing hard there.
Look at the file sharing section here. There are many good files to learn.
There is a file from moodflow
( Edit : http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4391.msg46100#msg46100 ) .
You can used as it is or change it  etc.
You can use the clouds as nebula's , galaxies too.

back from may... missed this one.

i partically like the space craft design in this project
interesting.

Thanks Lane :)

Why i did not animate it immediately will be clearer i think if i paste this from Terranuts here :

" Here is the original raw spaceship image.

[attachimg=2]

It is in fact the same image as i used in the picture here.
It has only some displacements from a image map made with the micro render (ray trace objects OFF) in TG2 .
It has no real detail and no color . I put the color in post on the image.
I made it very fast from an 16 year old model with basic lathe operations etc.
It is the very old version of the model i used here.

[attachimg=1]

I have unfortunately not the same patience like some other guys here for modeling  So i cheat where i can
But i liked the outcome of the model (at least in the postworked image) and i think i will make it ones more seriously this time with real detail and surface."

As you see the final spaceship and the original are different.
For an animation i have to build the spaceship ones more.

And the thruster FX :

"I did a crop from the background then made two copies of it.
Blurred one a little.
On the other copy i used a little motion blur and then put them over themselves and tried some blending methods.
I copied the resulting one and copied it ones more and tried other blending methods ones more.
There are so many other looks you can get ."

what was your render times for these Kadri? Should be pretty fast I would think?

I would still do the thrusters in post. Thats simple enough.

It was 5 minutes or so i think ,without postwork .
