Some new experiments, but not perfected yet.
Looks great, but I think these roads are way too curvy. I don't know if there's a way to flatten the terrain a bit where the road is going to be?!
Also the road texture is a bit too dark. It looks as if the road has been made minutes ago. Otherwise very good. I like the snow very much.
I like version 3 the best with its lighting. As always, I know you will be tweaking; and, looking forward to your results.
Love the snow!
Indeed I will be tweaking. These are just tests to get the road carved out of hillsides (but better than I had before). Just yesterday found a solution to something else again. Will be continued...
This latest has the best view and light so far.
This is highly challenging because if you want to go for realism you will have to build in some procedural (stone) foundations and walls for stabilization on steep hillsides like this. Otherwise the road would just wash away, eventually and be prone to rockfall. Knowing that you already mastered that procedural wall, it should well be in the realm of possibility :)
Now that's an interesting idea, Otakar. I might try that. But first these:
the green one is beautiful, Ulco! :-)
interesting the last image. ;)
The wall was a piece of cake, but there's something else I have to solve..... the road is in fact too narrow, and I can't 'just' widen it or other things go wrong. I'll find it.....
I like this one and the one before it. One thing; maybe vary the color shade of the dry bushes (some lighter, some darker)?
Regarding the road width, take out the center divider lines and make it a 'One Way' road.
Quotethe road is in fact too narrow,
Oh no it's not too narrow, in fact it's quite wide. I mean there are two lanes for goodness sake, the majority of our roads excluding the major roads and motorways are either single lane or like the one in your latest render.
That's an average width road over here.
Great result. Love it.
It's narrow in the sense that if I measure it, it's only 3-4 meters wide in total. It should be 6-8m. So it's inconsistent with the vegetation, if I don't take care. I had to half the size of the roadside sign. From a purist's POV the road should be the right size. Of course I can make it a gravel mountain road, or a railway, but that is not my goal.
I know there should be more variety in shrub and trees (colors), these are only 2 shrub and 1 tree.
I knew it'd only take you a day, Dune. That church in the background is just in the right spot. The road will probably need some bigger shoulders as well, at least in some areas. And a small ditch on the mountain side for runoff... :)
the last 2 are excellent!
all you need is some roadkill now...!!
:)
Looking good Ulco. What is this for? Just experimenting, or for something specific?
This is just to get to grips with the software. I'd like to make everything I want, and I will not be stopped before I can 8)
That last one is supersweet. This has Death Valley all over it, expect maybe for the bushes and some of the surface shading, but the feel is definitely there.
Great work!
Different method, with advantages and disadvantages. But at least the road width is controllable. I have to give the roadside gully some twist though.
With a little different light, and some strata in steep sides.
This point of view, the light and components of the composition come together for nicely balanced scene.
Oh yeah, developing nicely. Really like the weathered look of the road.
I'm still not sure whether I like the strata. You can see the road is going uphill now, but it gives a strange feel. And the stream is a bit too obvious. But this scene has sparked off an idea for an interesting animation, of which I already have some titles (but no storyboard); parallels... time cataclysm... the gate.... time zone.... it will be about parallel universes and a tiny discontinuity, or something intriguing.
Some tests for the storyboard. Same terrain, but a few hundred meters ahead on this lovely winding road in the lovely countryside something weird is happening and you will pass a timezone.....
