Title: Synch Two or More Objects in Animation
Post by: rcallicotte on August 17, 2012, 11:05:55 PM
Is it possible to synch two or more objects to move at the same translation / rotation?

I'll venture to answer this by guessing I need to do something with a CHAN file to import a camera and object from another application.

You can't currently sync motion of multiple objects in this way. CHAN file import won't automate the process as yet either. However future work on FBX import will probably at least give you the ability to import synced motion from other apps. Being able to sync object motion in TG would also be useful, of course.

Hi,

You could do a fair job of getting objects to move together using the curve editor in the animation panel. Set up the motion for one object and the copy and paste the curves for each component into the same component of the other object. You could apply an offset of some sort to space them apart. For example lets say you have two objects that you want to move side by side by seperated by 1000 m in the Z direction. Copy across the X, Y and Z curves to the second object. Go to the Z curve for the second object and select all the keys. Enter 1000 in the action edit field and then choose "Move by value" in the menu of the Action button. This will offset the Z curve for the second object by 1000m so the second object will move parallel to the first.

There are various ways you could use the animation panel to help achieve pretty reasonable synchronisation between objects. It's not as easy at the moment as it would be in some other packages though.

Regards,

Jo
