Testing a 5kB crossed billboard (80x40cm) of grass (2 versions mixed). In XFrog I made some screendumps of a bunch of grasses, and used it as texture for a simple double plane (X). Quite effective and very light.
interesting. Looks really good!
nice - the vegetation part looks photo-real!
Like the image a lot Ulco. I like the hill the tower sits on and the tower, and the details there the best. Grass looks great too.
But I am not sure I understand what your saying. The grass is an image, and not populated objects?
This is an image of a bunch of grasses, projected on an upright 2D plane object. That 2D object is being populated all over the place.
Right.
Very interesting and good work Ulco.
Not mentioned before, but I like the atmosphere and lighting a lot too.

Right.
WOW man! Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are the first to take mapping 2d to 3d, this far in TG2 8) Whatever the case is I have not heard of someone doing this. So way to experiment.
How many? 5000 planes? And how long for a render?
Very fun and cool Ulco. And it even looks good. Not bad for a days work ;D
A couple of others have done it before Michael. Nonetheless, as you said, it's very well done here.
Thanks Martin. Haven't heard about it. Probably it was before I knew my way around here?
Two times 50,000 instances of a 'crossed' vertical plane of 40cm high x 80cm wide with each an image of some grasses on it. Rotated with the terrain. On a frontal area of 110x110 meters, the rest is procedural.
Beautifull athmos!
