There's a way to download individual sizes up to 21600 width for just 1/8th of the entire image.  Put those 8 pieces together into one image and then your golden forever.  Combine that with ShaderMapPro and you have all of the images you need for a believable Earth.

Great tip, Calico! Those huge images can get pretty heavy!
