Title: Watchtowers
Post by: mhaze on November 09, 2012, 04:05:53 AM
At 35 hours to render(reflections+water) there won't be many more incarnations of this!  There are some more things I want to try before I give up completely.  Before I do I'd like to hear your comments and suggestions. The watchtowers were made in the manifoldlab version of Wings3D which uses voronoi noise to break up a form into individual stones. Plants by Walli and thanks to Hetzen for sorting out my population problems

Thanks folks - I've still one more update to come and I'm going to post some of the manifoldlab made models, for others to play, with in the next few days

Cheers Badger - After seting up the update decided I don't like it!  I've learn't a lot from doing this so I think I'll move on.

That looks pretty cool Mick. The voronoi brick modeling tool sounds really useful. Great result there.
I also like the monolith shapes on the terrain.

I'm a bit surprised to see this takes so long to render.
Looking at it I see there's quite some going on in regard to displacements?
I suppose you needed to increase the displacement tolerance to get this all work without weird artefacts?
Probably this would render a lot faster if the displacements were toned down a bit and more finely tuned.

Anyway, the result matters :)

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin

Turned out to be ray trace reflections in the reflection shader now renders in three odd hours.  I do tend to push the displacements high to get the kind of rocks I want but haveing had both you and Dune tell me they are extreme I toned them down a little, something to play with in the future.
