Title: tHeRe's SO mUch BLOOD!
Post by: TheBadger on January 12, 2013, 12:58:03 AM
Some questions on blood in CG

I work in Maya and Mudbox, but I would like to hear ideas from anyone.

I want to add blood to some of my objects and characters. Do I need to have a copy of each with and without blood on them?

How about adding blood in post?

Particals? Realflow? What do you guys recommend?!?!

REally dont want to guess my way through this. Hope you will share some ideas with me.

Thank you.

Oh, also. I should say that I am thinking in terms of animation mostly. But if there is some idea about stills I would like to here that too.

But for example on this image the blood on the face looks added in post. If the figure were 3D, how to get the blood to run?

Again in this image the blood is post. But if the figures were 3D I guess you would use particles to make the blood, But how to get some of the particles to stick to the objects, and run on the object?

SO here is one of the objects I made, and am trying to work with. The blood is just a paint layer. Flat. No depth to the splatter. What else could I try that may look better, and hopefully not to hard to work with.

REalflow seems to be the best fluid solution there is, pricey though. They offer a full learning edition thats not to expensive. Maybe when tax returns are done.

Probably I will have to do something complex like that. I was hoping to learn of some trick one of you knows, though, that I could pull off now. Not really sure what I wanted to hear.

Thanks freelancah

If you look up wet maps you will notice what they do. They are not hard to use either. I believe most of those spartacus shots etc that you see a lot of blood in are made with realflow. For example (made with houdini): http://vimeo.com/57317543 Works similiarly in realflow too.

Quotewet maps

Never heard that term before! TY! Its something I can start on.

I still have not gotten to Houdini. It just sits there in my dock, looking at me, judging me :o But I am almost to it.
