Title: Any ideas?
Post by: rcallicotte on May 23, 2007, 09:21:38 AM
Any ideas why this looks so blurry or hazy?

Hay brother Calico,

hummm, I see what you mean and it may just be the free version we are all playing with? as I get some of that myself, as well as a bit of grainyness as well, so I figured it was because we have the free version, not the full versions, since we cannot go above 3 for anti aliasing  :'( but it does look pretty good, although the strata is a bit wiered.
I take it you made this in L3DT right? then ported it over?  Maybe add a bit of roughness to the terrain? I do myself and it helps sometimes get the smoothness quality out, when I do not want it.  I love the Combo Tgd2 and L3DT.  They seem to work hand in hand as they say.
For those that do not know what L3DT is? go to: http://www.bundysoft.com/L3DT/ (http://www.bundysoft.com/L3DT/) and go check out Aarons software, I think you will be amazed. /winks.......

Sorry about not including the terrain file.   It's too big to upload here.  I got it from the TG2 class I'm taking.

I'm using the free version, but might consider installing the full version here.

Hi,

you have multiple "issues" at once that cause this blurriness. To name a few:
1 - very strange setting in the atmosphere. Try to use the default atmo in comparison to spot all the differences
2 - increased GI to 1.5 on surfaces. This is particularly problematic with the sea, reflecting a whole lot of sky blue onto the terrain
3 - very "soft" colors for the terrain, and quite uniform and dark at the same time.
4 - maybe also the sun is almost vertical, casting very little shadows, hnce the terrain features don't appear very much differentiated.

If you change these you'll see a big difference, I bet :-)

Regards,
Frank

Thanks, Frank!  I was fooling with the atmosphere settings to eliminate the haze and created my own problem.  Now, to figure out how that works...

;D

Ya, now that yopu mention it, it is probably my problem as well with the Haze making it pixulated at the anti alias at 3 for me, hummm, Thanks Frank you may have answered 2 questions /smiles.
