Title: Tablet and Mobile Phone rendering.
Post by: Upon Infinity on February 18, 2013, 09:12:41 PM
Heya,

Now I know that this isn't really tablet or mobile rendering, that would be ridiculous (for now, anyway), but I did want to make people aware of a little trick they might use to maximize their productivity and workflow.  I haven't seen it discussed here and I wanted to make it known for those who might not be using it.

And that is the use of remote desktops to enable rendering on your pc.  You can use these through your mobile devices and use them to activate renders on your main workstation, while you are away from it.  In such a way, you can maximize your design time to times that you are directly in front of your workstation and maximize the times you are away from it for rendering purposes or use to check progress on current renders.

That's all.  Enjoy.

Any further explanation needed, just ask.

I use TeamViewer for this purpose. It's pretty amazing to be able to see and control my full desktop PC from my phone from a great distance! As long as I have a good mobile signal, it works surprisingly well.

I tried out several programs.  None came close to PhoneMyPc for both connectivity and reliability.  I think it's a native Android app (also available on BB Playbook, where I found it).  It connects virtually every single time and almost never disconnects.  It will also function over as little as a 3g connection, and easily had the least complicated setup.  And yes, I thought it was the coolest thing when I discovered this.

I used to use "LogMeIn (https://secure.logmein.com/UK/)". It basically sends a streaming screen grab of your target computer via a web browser to either a phone, a tablet or a pc and allows you to move the mouse about on the screen and use the keyboard. Very effective and I was able to manage an entire farm of 40+ computers from my (now sadly defunct) tablet.
Incidentally I was also able to run TG on the tablet (LOL and HAHA!)
