Title: Hazeland Shores
Post by: choronr on February 18, 2013, 11:22:03 PM
Many thanks to mhaze for his file 'foam for posting .tgd' that can be downloaded here: http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,15618.0.html . This is among the best foam setups I have seen. I coupled it with a .tgc clip file by Goms called 'lakes and small mountains' that can be downloaded here: http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4484.msg105223#msg105223 . The lighthouse model is by Ade downloadable at Ashundar.

Surfaces for the distant mountains include a clip file by FrankB: 'Simple camouflage surfaces' http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,13078.msg129458.html#msg129458 . And procedural grass (PGS - evolution v2) clip file by dandelO which you can find and download at the Planetside forum.

Render time was a killer: 60.48.46; but, was expected due to the water area and foam.

Enjoy.

Wow!
60 hours...pwew! I wonder if the render time could be lowered. But the result is great :)

Thank you Kadri. Earlier, I had the image at 1700 x but reduced it to 1500 x trying to save some time. Hopefully, I'll try to create a clip file of the water/foam and use it in a new project.

Extremely nice image, Bob. No wonder it takes long to render with all the fine water displacements. I like the addition of the veggies. One thing; the highest rocks (back, left) also have reflectivity, but maybe you should lower that a little or increase fuzzy. The waves just aren't high enough, IMHO, for those rocks to be totally wet.
One way to reduce render time would be to set transparency to 0, and/or use a fake underwater color scheme. At least for the distance, and add a transparent water shader without waves for the closest parts.

Great! I agree with Dune about the wet stones. Fantastic image!

Very nice work Bob!

You can cut rendertimes greatly by disabling "ray traced reflections" in the reflective shader for the rocks.
However, this will have some visual impact, so you may need to tweak the specular settings to get something you like.

Great stuff,  I particularly like the fact that the waves are localized to the rocks and the water is smoother in the rockfree areas. The wet rocks do need sorting it was only laziness on my part that I didn't include it in the original image.

Thanks to all of you for visiting and your suggestions. Now having this water setup, I'm going to try and create a clip file from it and use it to see if I can create a desert river ...we'll see.

Its really good as is choronr, but I agree with whats been said. I would also add that the spray should go, I think.
If you do those things it would easily pass for a photo. Most people would be fooled anyway. I like it a lot and think is among the best I have seen from you.

Dont abandon it! Its a print/portfolio pieces for sure.

Thanks TB, this image is finished for now; and, as with the others, its always a learning experience.

Quite effective results here for something that is difficult to get right.
