Title: NUKE Vs. SMOKE

I went with smoke because I was able to get a free version with no restrictions, save using it to make money. The Nuke learning version has watermarks, and that just drives me nuts. Also, smoke was created for my OS, which is nice.


So, Do any of you Smoke?  ;)  and can you tell me what you think about it?


If you use NUKE, does smoke play on the same field?


One of the claims Smoke makes, is that its really easy to learn. Which sounds great to me because Im tired of spending so much time learning. I want to produce content now!


Oh yeah, I suppose you want to know what I want use the software for in specific terms. For now, just animation. For example a 3d character from Maya, acting on a 3d terrain from TG2. And later perhaps, 3d over live action.

It depends on what you're doing.  NUKE is an all around package and has incredible depth as well as has industry usage in loads of VFx.

I use Nuke and I'd say it's confusing at times. I certainly wouldn't want to have learnt what I have without help from compositors right next to me.
It's incredibly good for film and high end TV. Anything less than that and it's overkill. Basics are easy enough to pick up, but past that it can be a real bitch. Plenty of resources to learn from online though. If Terragen isn't taking your life over already. ;)
