I am attempting to add a ring to a planet. I want the ring to be made of cloud so I can add the look of dust to the debris that I already have. Additionally, I will add fake stones as others have done. But right now I would just like to ask about using a cloud.
I know from Hannes' work that I can make clouds and get them to appear like they are in space, by hiding the planet. At least thats how I think I remember he did his Nebula.
And I believe I saw some place in the forums, that clouds can be formed into specific shapes. so a ring should be doable.
But Im not sure how I should try to do this. Can I attach a cloud to a sss the way people get fake stones to follow a sss path, such as in some of the planet ring TGDs here on the forum?
I would really like to pull this off, because I think my debris field around my planet really needs dust to make it look right. Adding some glow or reflection may be nice too. Basically it should look like a nebula cloud, but a ring.
I've never tried this, but I would assume that an SSS (can we call this SS?) could be set for the outer edge of your doughnut, then make another SS the radius of your inner hole, then subtract that from the larger SS output. You should see a ring in the subtract node's preview. Then use that to blend a cloud layers density fractal.

Thanks for that link. It should help on this one. My only question is does the cloud layer *have* to be flat like in the examples, or should I be able to let them have some volume and shape? Ill be trying things out but if you happen to know, a sure answer is always welcome.
