I thought it was about time I tried populating something. This is a first go at it. Percy and friends turned up outside my window whilst I was doing it, so they went into the picture.

Great job! :)
Nice work!
Really interesting,
Btw, where are the hens?
Cheers
Really nice composition and image. The color feels to saturated to my eye though.
Thanks fellas for the observations. Appreciated.
TerrMite - Hens are small fat things that lay breakfast. Pheasants on the other hand are big fat things that fly and shout a lot.
Badger - I usually reckon T2 renderings are always a bit on the dull side, so a short trip into PS6 is usually in order just to get things a bit brighter for the average monitor view.
Incidentally, after this first venture into populating I have been trying every combination of control I could think of on a simple landscape to find out just how to control the number, spacing and sizes of various types of imported object. It's starting to bear fruit, although I am being a bit careful about loading up on something I've just created in case I overdo it. It would be nice if someone published a set of parameters dealing with this. If it was Photoshop I'd simply draw an area, select it and then fill it precisely how I wanted. T2 seems to carry a fair bit of guesswork with it, so I'm just doing it by numbers a bit at a time. If there's a better method maybe someone will tell me?

Hi,
There is a guide to using the populator here:
http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Populator_Guide
That might be some use to you. There is also a guide to the painted shader, which you can use to paint where you want populated items to appear:

Thanks Jo. That is precisely what I was looking for. Very succinct and detailed. Looks as though I might be able to produce something which looks a bit more realistic in future. I think the words 'watch this space' might be in order!
