Title: The planet ring (disc node*)
Post by: Sargon on April 21, 2013, 12:45:05 AM
All the good days. I have a question about texture mapping on the disc. tell me how to make the texture to be along a circle? Looking through the forum could not find the right information, but to create a ring using stones (asteroids). I want to try through ramp shader that will be repeated throughout circle. ideas as to try also are accepted))) thnx (sry for my bad english)

I believe that people use clouds in the way you are asking about (as apposed to fake stones).

Thank for help. But. Why use something difficult when you can use a texture (2 * 1024px) with only what I can not understand it so UV mapping. Read your article Maya cube +terragen (UV) in any case, the object disappears and the shadow remains. dandelO's work - superb work)

Ah, I think I understand now. To tell you the truth I don't think I have read about anyone doing it in a way other than in those links I posted.

But if Im reading your question better now, and simplicity is your goal, than why not just use a OBJ for the rings? Make a disk object and apply a texture. Its a funny idea but it may work rather well.
