Title: Down at the Pier
Post by: Lady of the Lake on May 03, 2013, 12:15:12 PM
I am always hesitant to post anything here since I have so much to learn.  But here goes anyway.  :-)  TG2 free version.

(Blackberry bush=Walli; Trees=X-Frog; waterlilly=Planit3D; pier=anscestorsrelic; cattails,reeds, and gulls=Dune; bucket=sorry don't remember)

Any comments are appreciated.

Don't be hesitant. By posting you get comment and you learn to get better. That's what it's all about. It's quite a pleasant render. The only thing I can say is that you might try some more displacement (bump) on the pier poles, to make them more worn. And the gulls are not mine  ;)

Don't be afraid to post. I don't think anyone will laugh at your work.(something I was always concerned about). The people that frequent the forum are a helpful bunch, best that I have found on the net.  ;)

Dune:  gulls not yours......hmmmm, I had them marked as from you.  Now I don't know whose they are....there are also crows in the zip.

I think this is a good one too, Lady.

I agree with Dune about needing some displacement or bump on the hard surfaces.
And I would even take out  some of the poles. you only need the right most two, maybe the middle ones. But the ones coming out of the bank reinforcement are not necessary at all.

Please try to recall where you got the birds. I could use some crows too!

Danny:  Thanks for the info on the gulls.  Will name my folder correctly.  Sorry to Terrade for incorrect credit.

Re: the pier posts.  I took the model into Poseray and added bump....just not enought I guess.  As to taking out some posts, I don't know how to do that to a model.  And if I moved the first posts farther away from the bank....the walkway wouldn't reach the land.  LOL

I would be nearly happy with this render myself. Dune is right about the piers; it's the only thing I can see that doesn't make this render awesome.

The bump you add in Poseray might not have any influence in TG. Check the default shader for the bump settings. You can also make a small scale slightly Y stretched fractal as input for the bump function. Size of the fractal depends upon the texture mapping of the poles, you'd have to experiment.

Looking very nice Lyla. I would be tempted to replace the wall with the terrain and add more vegetation in its place; then, lower the pier such that the posts would anchor into the earth (outermost through the water).

The wall.....is part of the terrain.  When I made the terrain (random one) and zoomed in on a piece of it I saw this "rock".  Applied the image map to make it look like old cement and went from there.  So I kind of like the terrain.

Will take a look at the bump on the posts though as see if I can figure out how to increase that.

Thanks everyone.

If you send me the model of the pier I will try to alter it for you. Should be easy enough... Take like 10-20 min.
If you want. Just let me know. Like everyone says, its a nice looking image. No reason not to get it even better.

Thanks Danny, appreciate that!

How did I miss this one. Looks very nice. And don't worry about posting your work. I post tonnes of cr*p and learn a lot.

I will get back to this when I am able.  I want to use the "new" pier I was provided.  :-)   But I am/have been unwell so it will have to wait.

Later,
Lyla
