Title: Create custom height shader?
Post by: keithlostracco on May 03, 2013, 02:17:43 PM
I'm wondering if it is possible in Terragen2 to write a custom heightmap shader? I think Terragen would be an incredible app to render out some 3d fractals. Is it possible to create a custom heightfield that uses some sort of arbitrary algorithm? If so is it possible to create a surface in 3 dimensions starting at a point off of the ground?

thanks
Keith

We don't have a published API or script interface that would allow you to code your own shaders, but it may still be possible using function nodes:

Awesome thanks for the tips. I'll have to get back into Terragen for a bit (I haven't used it for a while) before I make any attempts, but it looks like it should be possible to do what I would like to do. Man with the atmosphere, GI, and terrain abilities of Terragen some really amazing renders using custom shapes could be created.

I'm stoked to give it shot
cheers
