Title: Desolation Ridge (2014)
Post by: Zairyn Arsyn on May 09, 2013, 03:24:07 PM
wip

Terrain is a Height-field from USGS the server, geotiff.
i plan on adding some sparse grasses and a less clearly defined path.

C&C welcome.

Awesome detail in this simplistic scene. Keep on man...can't wait for more!

yeah thats what i was going for, it just needs some grasses, i'm going to several variants to give a little more realism

ran into trouble with the Fake stones / pebbles setup, i thought it was something in blending PF's turns out it was fractal detail settings in the height-field shader.

i also want to try and do something with the cloud altitude offset function, once i get all the surface details right.

Great start! There should be a path following the ridge.

i didnt change the scene on purpose.
something happened with the fake stones bed part of the network, and it got screwed up.
started over from scratch with the fake stones, more rendering coming.

C&C welcome.
Title: Desolation Ridge-2 renders

still bleak and gloomy, i find the render with the Giraffe to be a little creepy.

these are from earlier this week, i have moved onto a different project now

Tree by Walli, Sculpted boxwood Giraffe from Xfrog.

a friend of mine wants a print of the Giraffe one.

I can imagine that. Just one crit, though; I'd move the camera slightly to the right to off-center the ridge and giraffe, remembering the 'golden rule' of painting.

I am glad you did not add grasses.

I like it over all.

But the point of focus objects are not necessary at all, and the giraffe looks pretty bad anyway. If you just developed the stones and dirt, and light, this would be a very very strong image.

at first, before i added anything besides the terrain i had a different plan for this, (i had a photo that was sorta similar) then it turned out differently from what i had originally intended it too look like, but i was fine with that.

I like especially "desolation ridge v4.jpg".
Maybe a little less wet stones?
