Title: Making RPGMaker Backgrounds with TG
Post by: light487 on May 30, 2013, 07:07:49 AM
Hi,

I am new to these forums.. I used to use TG Classic quite a long time ago (years ago) to create photo-realistic skyboxes for the non-commercial maps I made for games like SWAT 3.. these days I'm into creating full games and I am currently using RPGMaker VX Ace as my game building tools. I'd like to use TG 2 to create backgrounds that are used in the game occasionally as parallax backgrounds, however I am finding that the photo-realistic nature of TG is actually not what I need. I've tried manipulating the final renders to create a more painterly look but I either suck at image manipulation or can't find the right tools to do it (possibly both.. hehe :) )..

So I was wondering if there are plugins, objects or default settings for TG 2 that I can use to create these more pixel-art style landscapes rather than the photo-realistic stuff. I've attached a picture of something I rendered today as to the kind of background I want.. but of course this is a photo-realistic looking picture rather than the style I want.. I am just showing you so you understand the perspectives and features I am looking for..

You could plug a distance shader into the colour input of a surface layer at the end of your terrain chain, which will give you a gradient over your terrain to the horizon. Turn off the atmosphere and use this grey scale to mask out distance features that you can then cut out in photoshop, effect then us as paralax bill boards.
