So I have been fiddling around with TG2 to get acquainted with all those possibilities again.
I got stuck all the time ... and was not satisfied at all with the results.
So today I started a new approach. Minimal Surface layers (3 + one reflection shader). Minor atmosphere tweaks and two populations of XFrog-objects.
I am not satisfied with quite a few details there and here. But stepping back 2 meters will give you a nice impression, what I am after ,-)

Very powerful image with some clever ground displacements. Not sure about the colour or the dominance of the sky.
The ground looks photo-real!
I think the sky color needs to be adjusted a tad.
I love the sky color! Perhaps just a tad lighter?
Good start man, I'm sure you'll get exactly what you want in time.
Very high altitude to get that sky on this planet ... I like ... keep going
Thanks for the comments ... the sky's colors are very much inspired by a photograph: External Link (https://plus.google.com/photos/101208437539753018719/albums/5628434851278544241/5888366802412443810?authkey=COD1mZeapOvgvQE) which is false color infrared. And I like the mystic touch in the colors ,-)
Of course this render is not complete ... but no WIP ... I would dive too much into clouds without progressing in other areas :)
