I used 6 equally spaced fill lights ( modified version of Oshyan's) with quite low values and moderate GiSD values too...

What is with the surface scattering I see on the scull? Whats causing that?

Hi Michael, not too sure exactly what you mean, but my reflective shader settings could probably be refined a good bit, some softer highlights maybe? Or more spread?
The skull is pretty bumpy so reflections are well scattered, maybe this is causing some of what I imagine you are seeing?
Am I close?

I think it is a combination of bumps on the model surface inside a shaded area of the model internally reflecting... Possibly exaggerated by both fill light and GI Settings.... ?

Edit it could also be my quality settings of the reflective shader too...
