Hi all,
A doodle with the goal to create a nice canyon like scene with the least amount of nodes possible to make it suitable as a preset/example scene for TG3 release.
In the end it also turned out into a Photoshop experiment on the EXR output to give it a crappy shot look.
Cheers,
Martin
Nice work. This will make a good preset :)
Matt
Real nice Martin, great layering of strata.
Thanks Matt :)
I'll hand it over asap.
Here's a less tortured version of the render and below is the raw EXR saved straight to jpeg.
Cheers,
Martin

Thanks Ryan :)
It are 2 strata and outcrops layers with opposite tilts.
Quotecrappy shot look
NO NO Martin! You must learn marketing! The correct way to say it is "stylized". ;D ;)
Actually its not too bad. There is just not a clear reason in the image for the style is all.
Nice preset! So glad to hear about this!
By the way, its good to see a post by you. I thought you may have been abducted or something.
Nice rock surface, Martin.
The detail is staggering!
cant fault that, nice work
Nice work! clever use of the strata shader.
Thanks guys :)
Here's another example:
I only changed ONE fractal seed for this image.
Cheers,
Martin
Great canyon.
What particularly impresses me is how few nodes you've managed to get so much detail and variation with.
Richard
Thanks Richard :)
That's a very kind compliment!
I will resubmit the project. You may have noticed yourself that I shared it without GI enabled, accidentially! :P
Hi guys
You are having a conversation with-in a conversation.
Please tell me more about these presets!!!
You all know I have been one of the people asking (begging ;)) for this kind of stuff in Terragen.
And Im very happy and grateful that something is being done. But what exactly is being done?!?!?!?
Cheers to all the beta testers! Thanks for helping Planetside, to help me, help my self 8)
unsung heroes no more ;)
Hi Michael,
It's about this:
http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,16435.msg160977.html#msg160977
Among these presets are clip files for texturing/shading, but also more complete scene presets.
It's my intention to share this one as a preset scene with instructions.
I have also promised to work on clip files, but haven't got around that much so far, due to too good weather, planning a huge trip and such...I hope to have some stuff ready in time and otherwise it might be included in future TG3 updates. I guess that's Planetside's intention anyway, to expand the number and quality of presets over time.
Cheers,
Martin
Looking like many of the areas of the Grand Canyon; beautiful work Martin.
your rocks rock Martin!
looks great!
the fractal variations are perfect here... how many pfs did you use?
cheers
J
:)
Hi Jason,
Thanks, glad you like it :)
The setup is:
Simple shape
Redirect large feature
Redirect small feature
Strata 1
Strata 2
Compute
Fine fractal detail
1 colour PF
3 colour surface layers
(reflective shader, optionally)
You should be able to find it on the alpha test forum already.
Be aware that that version accidentially has GI and raytraced shadows disabled (2nd tab of renderer).
I did that because I needed a Z-depth pass, so I disabled all the fancy stuff to make the render as quickly as possible.
(You can render a Z-depth without lights, shadows etc. That's why and I accidentially overwritten the file I shared so far.)
