Hey there. Wrapping up graphics work for the weekend, I thought I'd post a WIP of my next piece. It's obviously unfinished (heck, the lake is missing!)
WM terrain (only learning masking now to produce several different types of terrain in the one TMD); XFrog for the conifers. More species and pops to follow; maybe a snow surface, and the lake of course!
You really make great use of these WM terrains. I think the foreground terrain is a bit too smooth unless you plan to cover it in grass or other plants. The trees are also very dark on the left side of the image but oddly lighter on the right. I think making them *slightly* (but not too much lighter) and adding some color variation would be great... Looking at it more, I think the scale of the trees may also be off actually, too large. Not sure though, scale is often a hard thing to get right...

I toyed with scales, but am now happy that it's a ridge more than a range... I've added some stuff. I've to add fake stones and rocks, reduce the size of the flowers, add another flower pop and maybe some other shore debris :)

Wow - excellent work. The fake stones will make the erosion more convincing. I'd also try some faint warp/redirected strata

Definite improvement! That subtle dusting of snow is a nice touch. I'm really seeing the old Eoin magic coming back, and I knew it wouldn't take you long to bend TG3 to your will. :D

Thanks all. Very much a neophyte still... I promised myself I wouldn't focus too much on trying to be a technician this time... although a primer in using functions would be great. Here are two versions; one slightly tinged red from an EXR, the other a TIF with no post work other than a sharpen, then resize.
I think the fake stones are prob a little too subtle!
I don't think the rocks are too subtle, you don't want them to be too much a focus of the image, they add nice detail without being unrealistic or overwhelming. The red version is interesting, but too much IMO - maybe half way between the red and the blue? But also the previous image was brighter overall, which I liked, so brighten it back up a bit, and then maybe do a bit less red for a mix. You might also think compositionally about the amount of relatively featureless water here...

Ok - quickly done in PS. I must say, I really do like the amount of detail you can see in the shadowed sections. Those of you who are on the fence about getting TG3 should really just bite the bullet, personal budget notwithstanding of course!
Lovely! I still wonder a little about the scale of that ridge, but you've built the scene effectively with your scale in mind, so everything else works and it essentially forces the correct perspective on how big that is. In real life I might think it a bit odd and interesting that the small-ish ridge looks that way, but that's not to say it's unrealistic or impossible.
Anyway, it's a very nice looking scene indeed!

I had a photo in mind when I conceived it, and the scale is similar... can't find the photo now (it looks a wee bit different, obviously!); but the main feature was the aquamarine lake. I had a high mountain lake in mind, towards the end of the melt; the ridges are only part of the mountainsides... makes sense to me anyway.
Or to put it another way - I really wanted to see detail in the trees!
