Title: International Space Station
Post by: cyphyr on August 26, 2013, 10:28:23 AM
ISS from a model provided by NASA, hurricane provided by Terragen's new vortex node. Lens flare ... just because :)
Enjoy

Love, love those clouds.  Just glad they are not headed my way (south Texas, Gulf of Mexico).

Ok here is another version. I agree that the lens flare is not good but it needed something.
Originally I was after a model of the space shuttle or ideally "Buran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buran_%28spacecraft%29)" but could not find one at a decent resolution (that was going free or cheap!)
Harp strings removed and maybe a little better flare ...
:)

Richard if you have Lightwave it does have a Space shuttle in its content.
Not sure in which version but probably in v. 10 or 11.

The image looks great now !

Edit:  Doesn't the space shuttle here work ?

Same place as the space station?

There is also a model of the ISS at the same site.

Great image.

yes I saw these, the res is far too low, I'll check the LW content but I doubt it's much better. I'm looking for something that will show the individual heat tiles (maybe with a couple missing!) to pick up the harsh specular highlights.

Great image!! I agree about the lens flare. The first one was really ugly.

I like all the versions...if the strings were blurred a bit they would have worked. The solar panels look like sand paper...I believe they are more shiny or reflective blue/black...maybe like reflective dark water. Still, I can't be too critical because this is awesome...you inspire me to learn more and work harder on my images...Keep on man!!!
P.S. Don't forget to share for us less fortunate need a few scraps once in a while...

Looks epic.  I agree that the material on the solar panels looks wrong and my preference would be to lose the flare altogether.

Thanks for the comments guys. I agree about the reflection on the solar panels, although it's kind of "nodally" correct. The panels have lots of squares that are reflective separated by parts that are not. This is how it is in real life and how I've modelled it. Trouble is it don't look right. I do actually have another version in the pipeline and I'll sort out the reflection then. As regards the lens flare it looked pretty dull without it and most of the images I've seen taken from a similar angle to the sun have some sort of flare going on. Also I'm aiming for a filmic (particularly in the next version) look so the flare will stay for the moment.
Just need to make some models and I'll get started on the next version.
cheers
Richard
