Title: Stay open
Post by: EdBardet on August 31, 2013, 01:28:38 PM
I'm finally getting a grip on TG3. I am spending a lot of time 'tweaking' the various settings. Is there any way in TG3 to Keep tabs open in separate windows, like objects and cameras at the same time, like in TGClassic?

Thanks,
Ed

Every node has a "Stay open" button in the top right hand corner. It dose what it says :)

I don't know where you're looking then!
All or most nodes with variables have a "stay open" option, as cyphyr says.

The stay open button is still in the upper right corner of the node window, no? Or are you talking about the node window below the "Add layer" section of the *main* terragen UI?

Here is the render camera node for instance.

Or like this ... :)
If they were to stay open in the left hand panel you'd run out of space pretty quick.

Yes, so you must click on the aactual graphic icons of the nodes. That is, one of the little red (or other) rectangles. The result is a instant look at the contents of the node, with the ability to keep it open for as long as you like, and as many nodes as you like.

Really it the only way to keep from getting lost in a node tree. If you have tones of nodes and try to navigate them through the other way, you'll surely end up working on a node that you did not intend to do work on.

Finally!!! I never clicked on the nodes themselves. I was looking for a way to keep the TABS (see original post) in separate windows. Now I know the way :-[.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,

Just to answer your original question, there isn't any to show entire project views (what you call tabs) in separate windows. They're for the main window only. However you can open all the individual elements in separate windows (see the View menu), aside from the node list (top left of main window). Node parameter windows can be opened by double clicking the nodes in the Network view, as the others have mentioned.

Regards,

Jo

Thanks Jo,
Your additional comments are always appreciated. They add more details than answering the question alone.

You can also open additional 3D preview and network window views in separate windows. See the View menu.

Once you get your windows set the way you want them is there a way to save the layout so that when you reopen TG?

On my new system I have three monitors in use and it sure would be nice not to have to reset them each time I start.

There is no way to save layouts at this time. We do hope to implement that in the future.
