Does look like a painting.  The water is very nice.

Hmmm lol  ;D It does not look like a painting at all to me. Looks like a photo to me, but with a non-traditional printing treatment like Gum Dichromate...

or even this maybe.

Not exactly anyway. But you get the point Im sure.

Hmmm, I guess someone could say Gum Dichromate looks painterly.  ;) I'll never be able to see it that way though.

Yes, I like it too. It might be described as a mix between painterly and colored photo, like around 1920. Especially the mid section has a very nice cliff.

Really good. I'd like to see this much bigger. To me it has an alien feel, otherworldly.
Is the terrain a native terragen or a imported elevation map?
Also your cliffs displacement/texture is great. Is this done with the vector displacement and some image maps?

cheers

Richard

Thanks for all this positive feedback.
Quotenon-traditional printing treatment like Gum Dichromate
You right here, the post work i did with with the float output is really close from what append in a Gum Dichromate process.
First i ve made a black and white image tweaking color balance just before the desaturation process. Them i mix the result with an overlay blending mode to the original render. At last i ve added the direct lighting pass to the composite to give more crunchy highlight.
QuoteIs the terrain a native terragen or a imported elevation map
It's all native terragen but 1 more compute node to get the right normal all along the terrain generation.
QuoteAlso your cliffs displacement/texture is great. Is this done with the vector displacement and some image maps
No, only powerfractal plug into surface node + voronoi noise. I'm using a lot vertical or lateral displace option in surface node displacement tab.

A very effective, realistic image. Agree, like an old photograph.

I can imagine Otto Lilienthal gliding off that cliff.

I suppose it isn't even too hard to make that obj. Pity I don't have the time... but I'll keep it in mind.
