Why will the type of Display Mode I choose not stay that way? I like to work with Textured (versus Bounding Box/etc.) But it seems like each time I add another obj. the ones I have already there as Textured change to Bounding Box. Frustrating. Also Enable or Disable Shaders changes often for no reason. What am I missing?
I'm not able to reproduce either of these issues. We'll need some more information. What objects are you loading, what formats? Does it happen with both populations and individual objects? What is changing, the *object display mode*, or the *3D preview display mode*?
- Oshyan
Not sure if it single obj or population, don't remember....will watch more closely. TGO format, and if I am correct it is X-Frog trees/plants.
It changes in the preview window and then I have to go up and change it in the Display Mode at the top. The Shaders Enable or Disable changes after a preview render. Sorry I will watch more closely as to what is being done when it happens.
I am having lots of crashes also......lots. Mostly when I change a size or distribution of an obj or decide to delete one. I will watch to see what obj and format but I use a lot of X-frog veg. so is most likely that. I am trying to save after doing each thing.
Strange. As I said, we'll definitely need more info to track it down. Do watch closely when it happens and let us know if you can give more specifics.
As for the crashes, which version are you running, 3.0.07.0?
- Oshyan
Yes, that is what I am running. I have both TG2 and TG3 on my computer. Will delete TG2 and see if that helps. If not, I will delete TG3 and then reinstall. Thanks.
Regarding the crashes, do you know what graphics card you have, and what driver version you're running? There are hints of some issues with recent nVidia drivers which may be related...
- Oshyan
Sorry, I don't have a clue. :-( My computer is about three years old, so nothing recent. Is there an easy place to find out what I have? LOL
Speccy is a good free tool for Windows that can get that kind of info all summarized together: http://www.piriform.com/speccy
If you're not on Windows, I'm not sure what the best way to get the info is.

It would really be nice if someone could upload a scene that crashes so it could be tested under many different systems. But most likely the scenes are too large to upload.
New Project: Just had the Shader Preview change on me again. I have a Heightfield Shader terrain loaded, and this was the first surface layer (image map 512 x 512 bmp, center position). I had Shader preview enabled. Went from a size 2 on the image map to a size .08....just playing with the look. The preview went from "enabled" to "disabled". I have the Displacement checked on the image map screen....and Repeat X and Repeat Y.
This was the first thing I had done to the scene. No obj/etc or anything.
BYTW, I deleted TG2 from my computer......made TG3 move a lot quicker. :-) I think my graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5450. Don't know about the driver you mentioned as there are so many drivers listed and I am tech. challenged. LOL
When you say you had "Shader preview enabled", which "shader preview" do you mean and what do you mean by "enabled"? Previously it sounded like you were talking about the main 3D preview object display mode changing from "Show as textured" to "Show as bounding boxes". Is that what you're referring to still, or did I misunderstand originally?
- Oshyan
My first post was about both. Obj Display (textured vs Bounding Box/etc) and Shader Preview Display (enabled vs disabled). This was the first thing I have done since deleting TG2 so thought I would tell you about the Shader Display problem still being there.
Thanks, the feedback is good. However it would help if you could be much more specific *each* time you report an issue. When you say "Shader preview display (enabled vs. disabled), where specifically are you seeing it change? The Image Map Shader you're referring to doesn't have that option, so it can't be that. So which shader were you referring to? Or did you mean the overall display preference ("Turn all preview bounding boxes off" on the Gear button at the bottom of the Object list)? Basically, each time you report an issue please tell exactly where it occurs and in what specific shader or other part of the interface. If you mention the "preview", indicate whether it's the main 3D preview, a preview in a new window, the small shader preview next to the node lists, or something else.
The bottom line is I am so far unable to reproduce any of this and I'm hoping that more specific instructions will let me do so, which we can then troubleshoot and hopefully resolve. For the moment I have no idea what's going on.
- Oshyan
I can tell this is far too complicated for me as I can't seem to verbalize the simplest of things. I will just keep on doing the best I can and maybe someone else will have the problem sometime and will be able to tell you what is happening to them.
Thanks for your patience and help.
I'm gonna take a wild guess at this..............I believe Lyla is taking about the main preview window. She has the display mode set to textured to see her map and she is having problems with the display mode changing by itself. Please correct me if I'm wrong. :-[
Yes. AND the Shader Display in the that 3D Preview Main window is doing the same. They do not change every time I change some part of the scene but when reset, the buttons at the top of the 3D Preview Screen change very often.....all by themselves.
Thanks.
Hi Lyla,
When you say "when reset" do you mean you've clicked the Reset button in the main 3D Preview?
Regards,
Jo
Oh, well... that's your problem right there. "...when reset, the buttons at the top of the Preview Screen change...": that is exactly what "reset" is supposed to do, it resets the 3D preview to its default state. So this is expected behavior. If you do not want the 3D Preview settings to be reset, but you are trying to accomplish something else when you press "reset", then let us know what you're trying to do and maybe there's a better way.
- Oshyan
Again....a poor choice of words on my part. I meant "change" each button back to what I had it set to before. I did not mean I pressed the Reset button on the left side of these buttons.
Hm. Are you also aware that the state of those buttons is set and maintained *individually* for each Layout (e.g. when you click the Terrain button up top, the settings will be different by default from if you clicked Atmosphere, *and* if you change them in either place, it will remember those changes *per-layout*). Additionally, these settings are not maintained across sessions, so it will reset if you close and open TG later, or if you open or create a new file.
- Oshyan
This is about setting those buttons to what I want when I start a session and wanting them to stay that way; not just change on their own all the time. I knew it takes putting those setting back to my preferences after closing out a project. Not understanding about the Terrain and Atmosphere tabs and those settings, other than if you change one of them it is changed throughout.
I am sure it is something to do with my computer or my human error. Moving on. Thanks.
