Title: Difference in Coverage Adjust?
Post by: rcallicotte on June 19, 2007, 01:51:01 PM
Is there a difference in effect between the Cumulus Layer (Main tab) Coverage Adjust  and the Cloud Fractal Shader Coverage Adjust (Details tab)?  If so, would you explain the difference?

The coverage adjust in the cloud layer itself will control total coverage of *all* noise functions in the input chain, whereas the coverage adjust in a specific noise function will only control its own coverage. Aside from that there is no real difference technically speaking. Remember of course that the coverage adjustments will be additive as well, so if you adjust it in your noise function(s) and also in the cloud layer you will get the combined effect of both.

To illustrate Oshyan's info with a typical example:  If you are using an image map to mask the fractal, increasing the coverage of the fractal will increase the coverage only within the masked areas but if you increase the coverage in the cloud node, once you go above 0 you will also start to get clouds outside of the masked areas which can lead to unexpected results.

Oshyan and Ben, thanks.  This is helpful and brings light to a hidden place I didn't know was there.
