Title: Oasis
Post by: kaedorg on November 01, 2013, 01:43:05 PM
Here is a starting project, afternoon was rainy.

Just starting, not satisfied with palm trees populations and ground can be improved.

C & C welcome.

Your palm trees appear to have default shaders on them.  I think you could up the realism a lot by adding translucency to the leaves and upping the specular highlights.  I was playing with some xfrog trees recently too and ran into the exact same issue.  After making those adjustments I found them to be much more realistic.

Looking good. I agree with the surfacing of xfrog plant comments. Usually I set it to about 0.8 and work down. Slight soft shadows will help too.
keep at it :)

I also found the diffuse values to be inadequate as well.  I think the default was .5, but I upped it to 1.  I also put my translucency at about .9 too to get enough light transmission through the frond leaves.
