Title: Duin's Falls
Post by: choronr on January 18, 2014, 12:24:44 AM
Many thanks to Dune for his guidance, suggestions and ideas for the waterfalls. The node set up here is his which uses both a plane and a simple shape shader that form the falls/river. The water/falls/river are created procedurally and lie in a trench that is carried on forth as the downhill river.

I used four cloud layers to augment the falls/water/river, namely: Vertical Falls Cloud layer, Splash Cloud layer, Splash Mist Cloud layer and Bottom River Mist Cloud layer.

I also used three conifers, namely: NWDA/Walli Pine forest, jcinbama's Big Pine and dandelO's Larch.

I plan on creating a few more waterfall images with the next using a Water shader and a wider river - this being one of another set up by Dune. I'm doing this for practice to get a better handle on the use of the SSS and Plane.

Very interesting use of the cloud layers. Thanks to indicate their names, it gives an idea of how you use them.

Colour of the near waterfall seems like a river. The one in the top is nice.

Waiting to see more. Good job Bob

Thank you David. This image uses a 'Heightfield load' (a DEM file of somewhere in the southwest). The next project will use a Fractal terrain and Water shader; and, the following will use a heightfield.

Just need to keep on experimenting.

Looks good, Bob. In the lower end you can see what happens with a rugged base, the water gets rugged/rough as wel, which works good enough here, as it can be a rough ride down, but you sometimes want smooth falls and rivers, so it's better to start with a soft terrain and find the best spot for a fall (where the water plane is 'level'). Can't wait to see your next one.

Thank you Mike. After putting this one together, I feel for sure that a more close up POV will be easier to manage similar to Dune's.

Pretty exciting techniques being displayed here. The waterfall fits nicely within the terrain, good work!
