Title: displacement on xfrog tree leaves
Post by: sirio on January 19, 2014, 02:47:18 PM
hi all,
I've spent a few hours trying to improve tree leaves of my xfrog tree without any result :(
What I've done is setting a displacement function of type "Simple shape shader" (with no displacement image) to a leave but no matter which value I set the only thing I am able to get is variation in colors.

The goal is to have more realistic leaves, as the standard ones are flat. Any idea of what could be wrong ?

thanks a lot!
Sirio

Simple shape shader is not a displacement function. In the displacement tab of the default shader of the leave you should call an image file of the leave's displacement (or bump when RT objects is checked). Often a copy of the leave's colors will do as well, but can also make another gray scale file of the veins and stuff of a leaf. Play with the default 0.01 (1cm) setting for less or more bump.

Thanks Dune.

What about modifying the shape ? (such as from straight to very curved leaves, or even randomly curved leaves)

Thanks in advanced!

You can't change the leaves that way, unless they have quite a few polys, and you use the mesh displacer. But not my the default shader's settings like bump/displacement.
