Title: Using Terragen 1 and 2 job files on Terragen 3
Post by: Anthony Appleyard on February 09, 2014, 06:24:57 AM
I have Terragen 3. Terragen 3 scene files'  names end in .tgd .

I have old Terragen runs made in year 2002 etseq, and their names end in ---.tgw (Terragen worlds) and ---.ter (Terragen scenes). How can I load and run them under my Terragen 3?

You cannot load .tgw's, but you can load .ter's. After loading a terrain, you'll have to build the colors and displacements in 'the new TG3 way'.

Can one do it the other way round? (TG3 --> TG2 :D)

That's not the other way round; Anthony is referring to TG classic. If you have TG3 you don't want to go back to TG2. And from TG3 to classic is not possible either, AFAIK.

Dune is correct, you can load TERs but not TGWs. To load a TER, go to the Terrain layout in Terragen 2/3 and click Add Terrain at the top of the node list on the left, then choose Heightfield (load file) and find your TER. That's it, it should then appear in the 3D preview. You will probably want to delete the other items in the Terrain node list before doing this however, to avoid confusion and overlapping, and you may also end up under the terrain (indicated by a red terrain icon on the compass at the top-left of the 3D preview), in which case just move the camera up.
