Title: Snow on Tree
Post by: mindsap on February 25, 2014, 05:37:12 PM
This is an experiment I wanted to try ever since I heard that we could populate on objs.  Several populations of rocks.  Not really practical for large scene but still fun.

Good stuff.  Actually, I was curious about how to do snow on objects, although I was thinking more architectural.  This method should work quite well.

Clever thinking, but indeed, as soon as you have a forest your winter will be gone before the rocks have settled  ;)

A nice idea for winter scenes

Populations on objects will increase realism and creativity.

Looks nice! Have you tried to animate the snow?

What a nice try! I on the other hand was wondering if you can imitate snow just by repainting part images of the objects through image processing programs.

N-drju I have done that in the past.  Like I said it is not practical when you have over a million snow flakes for one tree or in this case rocks.  I am sure one of those better at this can come up with a better idea.  Maybe I will design a snowflake obj. :o

If you do, let me know. :D I think I'll be doing just that (repainting) when on winter scenes, although I don't plan any right now. I think a good way to achieve snow effect would be to tinker with the .obj file itself. Adding lumpy-looking objects onto tree branches and then covering those with some snow texture might be a good idea. I'm no specialist in modeling but I guess you know what I mean. :D
