Title: Misty morning
Post by: kaedorg on February 27, 2014, 01:32:25 AM
Probably the last 3.0.10 work.

Idea came from the novel where the red ferns grow. And I wanted it in a misty morning mood trying to render the evaporation of the mist.
Still a WIP, so any critics are welcome.

Credit vegetation : Lodgepole Pine (Xfrog, USA conifers), Dead Tree and some Reeds (3d Silva), Ferns (Walli)

Moody atmosphere!  I like it.

I like the atmosphere, but you need more variation in your tree pop.............too many repeats IMO.  :)

I agree that more undergrowth would be more exciting, and I would change the very small sizes of the mist, it's kind of patchy. Maybe increase variation and feature size, so it's more dynamic. Objects throw shadows would also be interesting (slower).

Nice work, I like it. Looks somewhat like the forest close to my summer cottage.

I do agree with comments about vegetation variations.

I wanted a tree (conifer) with a 75% bottom trunk without branch. On my Xfrog bundle, I only found this.
But I could try another idea with more variations.
And mist can be improved. Have a couple of days before playing with population on objects  ;)

Excellent mood, a very painterly image.

Agree with Ulco. The fog's noise is a bit too small and it should receive shadows of the trees. Anyway very nice image.

Thanks all for your comments

Starting to try your suggestions.
Here is a version with "Objects throw shadows" on.
I do confirm that rendering is slower.

Love the 'feel', truly a fine misty morning.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "objects throw shadows"?! Did you check "receive shadows from surfaces" in the cloud's quality tab? That's what I meant.
To my taste the noise size of the fog is still too small.

Looking forward to your next iteration.

Yes Hannes I meant the "receive shadows from surfaces" in quality tab.
But I prefered to check before answering your question. And It was cheched but in the atmo's quality tab.... :o

So thanks a lot because otherwise i could have considered this render as normal for a cloud "receive shadows from surfaces" checked.
And of course they'll be other iterations  ;)
