Title: Castle Formation
Post by: otakar on March 11, 2014, 12:08:39 PM
This is the result of my playing with the new octahedron object. If the shape resembles something, yes, I did notice. Tried to make adjustments but nothing fit very well, so I decided to leave it as is.

Looks like you didn't apply your displacements in world space.
Maybe you should give it a try.
Keep experimenting.

Bound to be a tourist attraction. ;D

Can you explain that? There is just a powerfractal displacement in the object default shader and I have added another displacement shader between the object surface shader and the default shader. No transform input shaders in use here.

I did notice the general lack of displacement on the octahedron corners (as seen here) that I am unable to address so far.

To me the displacable objects seem to stretch the applied color textures and
displacements as if they are uv-ed and thus I applied PFs in world space - via
transform shaders - and got much better and better adjustable results.

why wouldn't simply changing the direction of the displacement from horizontal to more vertical not have an effect?

I am thinking of strata, but is there no similarity?

It does not. I am thinking it may be due to the sharpness of that corner. I am attaching a crop of the octahedron without displacement. By the way, adding a Transform Input Shader just before the object Surface shader has some (positive) effect on color distribution (thanks j meyer!) but no effect on the displacement.

Tried it myself again and couldn't get it to work as before either, strange.
Don't know what's happening here, absolutely clueless at the moment.
Sorry!

It was just meant to be. Print it large  ::) and send it out.

Got it to work again later last night.
Totally forgot about the Round Radius.
I have made some pics to explain and will post them
over in the Terragen Discussion Forum section.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
