Title: Black stains under a glass dome
Post by: russe166 on March 15, 2014, 11:39:22 AM
Hallo!

I got black stains under a dome made of an imported object (.obj). The .obj has a water shader as surface layer.

[attach=1]

After a while I discovered that the problem is related to the surface layer option 'Intersect underlying'
together with 'Displacement intersection' in one of the two surface layers that I have used.

When I change the order of the two surface layers the problem is gone.

My question now is: Why does the order of the surface layers matter in this case?

There is a bug here. The intersect underlying feature isn't working as it should when viewed through through the water shader. I don't understand the bug well enough to explain why the order of the shaders matters, but I've entered it into the bug tracker.

You can remove the black stains if you increase the shift settings, but you might have to lower the dome somewhat.

Hello!
Now the picture is done, but to achieve the desired glass effect I had to cheat a bit.
So I composed two images from the glass dome into one.
