Title: Matt Takes New Job?
Post by: rcallicotte on March 26, 2014, 04:40:35 PM
I just saw that Matt F. is now working for Digital Domain as their Terragen expert. What's up, Mr. Fairclough? Or can you tell us?

From  the general Wiki  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terragen)(not Terragens own wiki)

"... Rendering software contributed by PlanetSide proprietor Matt Fairclough was used by Digital Domain for effects in Star Trek Nemesis. Terragen Classic was used in The Golden Compass and the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man, games, and many TV commercials.[6][7][8] ..."

I thought the Golden Compass used TG2.x ...

Maybe it's just a formality.

Whats the point of this?

If DD needs something TG does not have, than matt and jo will add it, then we get it too. Whats the worry?

I'm not worried. Did I say I was worried?

You made me worry for a min.

I'm working at DD to help out on a few projects they have going on at the moment. I like to work in-house at visual effects studios at least once a year, especially if it's Terragen work. DD is an environment I'm particularly familiar with, and they do incredible work, so it's a good place for me to be. Terragen development is ongoing at Planetside and there will be updates to Terragen 3 in the not-too-distant future. Business as usual! :)

As we've mentioned before, working closely with effects studios has brought a lot of great new features to Terragen. :)

Thanks Oshyan (and Matt!). That's why I'm not worried. :)

I actually trust you guys (I do know you make mistakes, however  :o ) and you actually care about a good product. For my part, learning what I've seen within the Planetside family is like what it is for bank tellers learning to spot counterfeits - they are taught the real money in great detail, so a fake bill is easy to detect. I've learned so much about the 3D business, professional politeness, customer concern, patience and how a 3D program can exceed my expectations here from Planetside, so when I see poo in the 3D world I know it immediately.

No poo here --> At Planetside.
