I am "experimenting" with fake stones but I failed after 5 minutes. Can someone help me out so I can take my 1st step here...
When I insert a rock that of crs looks like CG from 1974. Therefore I want to give some bumpiness so it is closer to a rock but how? Whatever I try my rock just turns black. I do not even see how to attach a new shader to the rock. If I replace the default shader all goes black >:(
In the Fake Stone dialogue you'll see Surface Shader...I often use a Default shader and add either image maps or PFshaders in the available slots till I have something I like.
EDIT...I've added a .tgd for you to load and study...easier than many words.
There are also some presets included with TG3 that show some improved texturing for Fake Stones vs. the default.

Thx Bobby for the file. I will study it ;)
Oshyan I have the free TG3 and I did not see any presets there... :-[

you have to download them separately from the Terragen site. Scroll down to the bottom on the downloads page where the free XFROG plants are...there's also a free pack of Walli plants....
Wow thx man! I missed that link big time but now I have it :D :D
BTW, I looked your file. I was thinking before fake stones are objects but from your file I can see they are procedurals? This is how u create fake stones? Or it is up to the person what he/she uses?

Fake stones are geometry and grow out of the terrain. They are a Shader not an object and as far as I know this is the main/only way to create them. There is in TG3 a Rock object that can be populated in the Add Object drop down menu as well.
Ohh yeah that was my mistake. I tried the rock object ::) and tried to "bump it up" but nothing happened :D
