Title: Keeping object instances in one place?
Post by: N-drju on April 17, 2014, 02:20:53 AM
Howdy,

Been away for a little while. :P

I am trying to do multiple shots of a single scene from various views. To save some time, instead of creating very large populations of certain objects I really would prefer to simply move some of them around. Still, I want to keep some instances at exactly the same place and at exactly the same rotation, regardless of the area center coordinates.

Needless to say when I repopulate after movement all is redistributed in exactly the way I don't want it to! >:(

Ideas please?

I found that too, instances change in location when boundary is changed. So, keep the same boundary/pop size if possible.

Hi,

Please check out the documentation:

http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Population_Instance_Editing

In the Hints and Tips section it does mention that if you move the population the instances move relative to it, they don't stay in the same place.

One way you could do it is create a number of populations, like tiles across the terrain. Enable and disable them as needed. That way you won't be changing the location/bounds of the population and the instances should say put.

Regards,

Jo
