Title: Mud
Post by: Harvey Birdman on July 15, 2007, 04:26:14 PM
I've been doing a little series concentrating on improving my surface texturing techniques. To that end, here's a study in mud.

Your mud looks pretty... well... muddy ;).  Do I see Voronoi there?

Yeah, I looked at the 'cracked face' tgd and cooked it down to a 4 node 'cracked mud' shader, then used a little image shader based displacement to create the channel through the mud flats.

I did another version with a volcano in the background and tilted the camera up a bit to give the scene a little more balance, but I like this, with just the mud.

Very good job, Harvey.  I like the mud and the stones.  This is very picky (very!), but I'd like it better without the grass sprigs.

Really? I just kind of tosssed those in as an after-thought. No matter. The mud is the thing. I'll have to try sand dunes next.

;D

Amazing what some people whip out. The rocks are looking very real, too.
