Title: Dante 01
Post by: freelancah on June 19, 2014, 04:39:18 AM
Hey guys. Long time since Ive posted here, my startup company is keeping me busy and doing some commissions on my spare time.. Anyways I did some work on an old project and guess it's time to post something again ;)

The clouds are made with an image map around 50k wide. Just 1 cloud layer. Terrain however has a massive ammount of nodes creating all kinds of shapes, craters and whatnot.
I added a scaled down version to the forum and a link to the 12.5k wide version. Lava stands quite well to closeups. Rendered from the same position as the large image, except with a camera angle of 1 degrees instead of 60. Also a terrain render without clouds to show the land shapes..

I rendered this originally @ 19k wide but got complaints about browsers crashing so I scaled it down a bit :)

I like the renders.
Very big textures. Any problem at editing?

Thanks guys
Kadri it's just 1 texture and no not really, plenty of ram helps a lot :)

Attached closeup image of the sunny side of the planet. Without clouds tho

Thanks Hannes!
A bit of closeup to clouds. They dont stand "that" well in closeup but i guess they are okay :) Everything else however is pretty close to what I want

ALmost afraid to ask, but, what do you consider to be "plenty of ram"?

64GB would be plenty. 32 GB sufficient :)

That closeup looks amazing! However there is a strange straight line. I guess it's inside the clouds map, right? As far as I remember I once had a similar artifact.

Yeah there is a line somewhere in the image mask. Need to do some more searching. There are more Im sure

can't seem to view the 12.5 K image, firefox tells me it has errors  :(

Lane no problem here with Firefox. V.30.0
I have 32 GB Ram but not sure if that is the problem.
Have you tried to save the file directly by right clicking on it and then open it with another viewer like Xnview etc. ?

Not a massive update. Just playing around with the idea of adding some borealis effects. Not quite done :) I tried projecting a messy b&w image mask with spherical projection and driving that tru a warp shader+twist and shear.

Do you still have the aurora stuff I sent you a while ago?

Yes I do. Been testing those too. I wanted to experiment with the idea of having some noise projected spherically so I could get some nice streaks going everywhere but it did not quite work as I intended

I'l make some ground level renders once I get the other adjustments sorted :P Still fiddling with atmosphere related matters ;)
