Title: Some confusion from a newbie
Post by: sz200 on July 28, 2014, 05:29:29 PM
Just starting to learn this and using the "Create Your First Scene" doc which seems to be written for Terragen 2, but still recommended for 3.

" by default there is a Heightfield generate in the scene with a Heightfield shader as its parent. Let's take a look at the generate node so we can start to create our world."

If I do a new scene, all I see are:

- Fractal terrain 01
--> Simple shape shader 01
- Fractal warp shader 01

So is the heightfield generate and its shader really just the Fractal terrain 01 and shader (they've just been renamed?)??

The default scene has changed for Terragen 3, the guide needs to be updated. We have tried to make the default scene more useful and illustrative to begin with. You can still follow the First Scene document roughly, but first skip to just after the Heightfield is generated (top of page 3), ignore any references to the Heightfield Shader from then on, and then at the end of page 4 where it tells you to add a Fractal Terrain, just skip right past that as the new default scene includes such a terrain already. All the rest should apply fairly well still.
